*Earthquake Update*
Tuesday, January 12, 2010 – 6:05 p.m.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti near Port-au-Prince this afternoon, shortly before 5 p.m. Preliminary news reports indicate that damage in and around Port-au-Prince may be severe.
All Northwest Haiti Christian Mission facilities, travelers and employees in the northwest zone are safe. The earthquake was felt at the mission’s main campus in Saint-Louis du Nord and facilities were briefly evacuated, but no damage was found and all buildings have now been reoccupied. Saint-Louis du Nord is roughly 100 miles from Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. NWHCM staff are working to check in with other NWHCM staff elsewhere in the country.
Please pray for our Haitian brothers and sisters in the Port-au-Prince area as they are facing what is almost certainly significant tragedy.
NWHCM staff will continue to post updates here as we learn more.
Thank you for your prayers everybody
